Victorian
recreation, North East London
(££)
This house built
c.1900 had recently been renovated, retaining many of the original
features and reinstating those that were lost. The client's brief was
therefore to create a front garden that might have existed at the time
the house was built.
As part of the
project we undertook extensive research into Victorian and early
Edwardian gardens and this was the result.
The diamond motif
used throughout the garden was inspired by the original
Victorian tiles still in the porchway and this theme is continued in
the tiled path which we reinstated.
Both the planting
and colour scheme are based on Gertrude Jekyll designs of the period.
We have used many of her signature plants in the scheme whilst
editing out those that require more regular tending to keep the garden
manageable. |
