Japanese Victorian fusion garden, North London (££££)
Having
travelled extensively in South East Asia, these clients wanted an Asian
style garden, but one which would sit well alongside their Victorian
home.
We
based the design around a traditional Japanese tea garden but
created a fusion by combining this with the Victorian
interpretation of a Japanese garden, filled with plants brought
back from the east by the plant hunters.
The
central pond and dry river bed divide the garden into two sections with
the area to the north west planted in the Victorian style and the
remainder of the site more typical of the gardens seen all over Japan
today.
This
garden is a long term project which we have already been working on for
a number of years. As well as designing the garden and overseeing the
build, we handled planning applications and worked with a specialist
company to design the tea house.
Over
the coming years we will continue to work on the project, establishing
a moss garden - currently in the early stages of development - around
the standing stones and cloud pruning the plants to achieve the
authentic Japanese style. |
