Bird-lovers garden,
Wanstead
(££)
The french doors of this house are over 1m above garden level
and there was an existing deck with unattractive concrete
steps leading down to the garden.
Our clients wanted to replace this structure with an enlarged deck
which had room for a dining table, so we designed a
multi-level deck which meant that the table would be out of
sight of the neighbours.
The garden already benefitted from well developed trees and shrubs and
the owners enjoyed feeding the many birds attracted to the garden.
However the shrubs had outgrown their alloted space, creating excessive
shade and overwhelming other plants. We carefully edited the planting;
widened the borders so we could add perennials for seasonal colour and
defined the beds with brick edging.
As well as bringing colour to the garden, the planting scheme
is low maintenance but most importantly was designed to
attract birds to the garden by providing a food source throughout the
year.
